How To Make Your Water Pump More Effective And Efficient

Blog

If you use a water pump for industrial purposes, you probably already know that pumps are surprisingly prone to failure, breakdowns, and other problems. And, unfortunately, when a pump requires maintenance or repairs, that can equal wasted time and thus wasted money for you and your business. If you don't have the time or energy to deal with the hassle of broken down pumps, there are a few key tips you should learn and make use of. These tips, which we'll provide below, are guaranteed to help your pump run better, more smoothly, and more efficiently, making your life and your job a whole lot easier.

Use Anti-Friction Bearings

First things first, if you're not already using anti-friction ball bearings, bought from a location like Commercial Hardware, in your pump, then you definitely need to make the switch. These bearings, which are suitable for both small and medium industrial pumps, do cost a little more than standard ball bearings, but the extra cost is definitely worth it.

Anti-friction bearings can enable your pump to work much more quickly, allowing you to make more money in less time. They also, of course, produce minimal friction, which causes less wear and tear to your pump, allowing it to operate at its full capacity for a longer amount of time.

Use Your Pump Conservatively

Another thing you'll want to keep in mind is to use your pump conservatively. That might sound simple, but if you really start paying attention to your everyday pump usage, you might be surprised at just how wasteful you're being and how much it's costing you, not to mention how much wear and tear it's putting on your pump.

To help your pump run better, last longer, and use more energy, always shut down any pumps that are not in use for a specific application. Also, when  your flow-rate doesn't require additional pumps to run, use your pressure switches to shut off flow from any pumps that are not necessary. Simple, small efforts such as these can make a huge difference for your pump.

Use a Retaining Cage

Finally, you should also invest in retaining cages, which are used between your ball bearings to ensure equal spacing of the bearings. Not only will a retaining cage help to reduce friction and keep your pump running smoothly, but it will also generate a small amount of heat that can help to speed up the pumping process.

As you can see, there are many things you can do to help your pump better do its job; follow these tips, and you should see a big improvement right away!
